Cassandra
is Vice President and board member of the Texas Sculpture
Association, and an independent curator. Over the past two decades
she has and continues to curate art and gallery exhibits such as Fin de Siecle,
the annual Garden Gallery Art Show,
Breaking the Sound Barrier, as well
as the upcoming shows, Collaborage,
Sensoria, and
H2Odyssey.
Utilizing her background of
dance and the performing arts with the visual arts, Cassandra produced
a number of multi-media shows in the past two decades such as Season's
Turning, the DPC's Celebration of Spring,
and Performfest '92, '93,
and '94, while a member of the Dallas
Poets Community, the Japanese taiko drum group Kobushi, and three
other dance and drumming groups in the 1990's.
Cassandra grew up
in a family of artists who loved nature. She has always enjoyed
working in a variety of media.
"Because
I believe nature is the best art there is, I don't think one can
improve on it. But since nature is my inspiration I want to give
my own interpretation of it; that's a uniquely human ability. Humans
were made to create and interpret, and I believe there's nobility
in any kind of attempt to bring more beauty into the world.
Art
can become a lifeline, a bridge to the self we might otherwise forget
about. With each year I spend more time digging in the earth and
planting, and I see a connection between planting ideas and developing
my art like I would my garden. I'm coming to believe that creating
art can help us uncover our true essence; more accurately than our
jobs, roles, personality, or other things we let define us.
In getting back to my roots, I have made a personal commitment
to expand my own fine art galleries, as well as to provide venues
and opportunities for other artists to break new ground in their
art. Please see the Artful Events page for shows and opportunities
that will foster new ways of stretching ourselves through the creative
process. Since an artist goes within to create art, then goes out
into the world to find people to witness it, a special thanks to
Rocío
Heredia for her excellent
work on this Website, and many thanks to you for visiting and letting
me share my work with you."
